La profesión docente es una de las consecuencias más desafortunadas de la racionalidad instrumental: desde el surgimiento de los sistemas educativos nacionales, se insiste en que la labor del profesor es simplemente atiborrarse de un determinado capital cultural y de una "teoría" pedagógica" para después "aplicar" todo eso y aguardar unos casi mágicos resultados... Así, todas las políticas educativas han partido de ignorar el saber teórico/práctico que los maestros construyen cotidianamente en las aulas. Sí,hablamos de un saber teórico/práctico parcialmente racional y casi siempre también fundado en creencias y valores de una tradición institucional, pero si los procesos de reforma e innovación no comienzan considerando ese saber teórico/práctico para encaminarlo hacia un proceso de reflexión, la labor docente seguirá expuesta a las incompresiones y embates que ya hoy la erosionan gravemente... Es por eso que hoy todo el mundo -principalmente quienes se ostentan como formados en las llamadas "profesiones libres"- se sienten con derecho a opinar y reprobar un ejercicio profesional sobre el que nunca han investigado ni teorizado formalmente; es por eso también que el maestro es la única voz ausente en este mal fundamentado debate sobre el problema educativo, pues se le ha hecho asumir que es sólo un pseudo-profesional,siempre necesitado de que otras disciplinas y otros profesionales "colonicen" su labor. Una labor que en realidad está urgida de una nueva racionalidad; una racionalidad q solo el maestro podrá construir a partir de su saber teórico/práctico que cotidiano. Una racionalidad que en otras profesiones nunca han vislumbrado,pues su ejercicio nunca necesitará ir más allá de lo meramente instrumental.
